I never planned on
writing stories of any kind, then one day
Nicole
Austin challenged me and I couldn't help but pick up
the gauntlet. Obviously, I can't stand a dare.
I consider myself to be a reader more than a writer. I've been an
avid reader since my mom introduced me to Edgar Rice Burroughs's
Mars series at age 9. From there I began reading anything I could
get my hands on: mystery & thrillers, paranormal, science fiction &
fantasy, spirituality, health, philosophy, and cereal boxes. I
didn't really read romance until they started opening the bedroom
door, and now I spend my days catching up on all I missed. To this
day, however, fantasy remains my favorite. My soft spots are for
Tolkien, Goodkind, Hamilton, Kurtz, and Zimmer-Bradley … and so many
more!
Thank you for
joining Sensual Reads for this interview, TK! This has been a busy
year for you, first with Mimosa Night and then with Margarita Day.
The books hold a very “Dynasty” feel, but with better sex and more
intriguing characters. What was it like working with fellow author
Nicole Austin on these great reads?
Thank you, J L, for taking the time to interview both Nicole and I.
This year has been a whirlwind, especially for me since it was
totally out of the blue.
Working with Nic is fantastic. She has such enthusiasm and the ideas
seem to flow from her. She is a great inspiration to me and I
wouldn’t have dreamed of writing, let alone getting published, if it
wasn’t for her.
What
inspired the classy, fabulously rich feel of these tales of love,
lust, and fantasy between the friends of the freshman book “Mimosa
Night”?
Believe it or not, four brave women and their fantasies
inspired Mimosa Night. We ran a contest to stir up interest on our
E-loop, four of the prizes were stories tailor-made to each woman’s
fantasy. The response to the completed stories was so good, Nic and
I sat down and tied them together. The result—Mimosa Night.
What is the
collaborative writing process between you and Nicole like? Does
the work just flow, or is there a mess of brainstorming and idea
swapping that takes place first?
All of the above actually. Nic flows and I brainstorm and idea swap.
She usually sends me a rough draft of a plot, then I start peppering
her with questions—usually ‘why’! I was one of those kids who always
wanted to know why, and it has gotten worse with age. Somehow in the
process of plots and whys, we end up with a story.
When did you
first feel that erotica and romance were the literary paths that you
wanted to take? Were there any inspirations that sent you hurdling
into the genres?
The inspiration to write erotic romance was Nic. Not in
my wildest imagination have I ever seen myself writing stories. She
told me I should write, and I told her I was not a writer. Then she
dared me to write a story with her. I couldn’t resist picking up
that gauntlet and showing her how wrong she was. But somehow we
just clicked and before I knew it, we had a story published and were
working on Margarita Day.
With
collaborations on the mind, are there any individuals that you
would like to write with again in the future?
I honestly haven’t given it any thought. There are
authors I would love to write with because I admire them and would
learn so much from the process. Authors like NJ Walters, Annmarie
McKenna, Charlene Teglia, and many others.
What’s in
store for TK Winters in the future? Do you have any works in
progress that you’d like to tell about?
I do have one work in progress tentatively titled
Fontaine’s: The Dance. It is a paranormal erotic romance, which
inspired one of the stories in Mimosa Night.
Nic and I have a work in progress about a totally alpha Native
American who lives in the wilds of Alaska and meets up with an
irresistible photographer.
Finally, TK,
what influences your writing? What makes you itch to sit at the
computer and punch magic into the keyboard?
Life. Life and my observations of myself going through life
influences my writing, and the desire to share. I read to learn, and
I learned so much about myself reading erotic romance that I write
to share what I learned. Overall, however, I write because I have
fun writing. I write with Nicole because we are sisters of the soul,
and I receive so much each time we collaborate.
Thank you so much,
TK, for taking the time for this interview with Sensual Reads! We
wish you the best in your future literary endeavors!
