~ Jude Mason ~
Jude Mason was born in a
tiny community off the west coast of Canada, I learned to love the
outdoors and anything to do with the ocean pretty much as soon as I
could walk. Married, at the ripe old age of eighteen to my high
school sweetheart, we live very happily, still on the coast and in a
small town.
I've written for most of my life, but until I found the internet in
the late 1990's, had hidden all those nasty tales that would creep
onto the pages. There, amazingly, I found that others wanted to read
them. And so, I worked at improving a skill I had always loved, but
had never tried to polish. It's also where my dream began, to
actually do something with these erotic tales that seemed to gush
out of me.

Hello Jude. Thank you so much for joining us today at Sensual Reads
and Reviews.
Deborah, I'm
thrilled to be here, thank you so much for having me.
I
see from your biography that you have been writing for many years .
In all that time, has there been one outstanding moment for you?
This is a really
difficult question, only one! Ugh! Outstanding you say. It's got to
be when my husband realized how important writing was to me. He knew
I'd always written, but it was something I did late at night and
never talked about.
He really 'got
it' when he really got into photography. He's always been a huge
outdoor type, we both have. He got a digital camera a few years ago,
and there's been no stopping him. People started commenting on some
of his shots and he beamed. When he sold his first one, it clicked.
It wasn't so much that he made X number of dollars, but that people
actually looked at and liked his pictures, and he knew. It's
something he loves doing. He never goes anywhere without his camera.
It's as much a part of him as my writing and imagination are a part
of me, and he 'gets it'.
Now, when I say
I've sent off something to a publisher, he always wishes me luck,
says they'd be nuts to reject it, whatever, he's just so supportive.
I'm blessed.
Has your life changed at all since you became a published writer?
I have to say
yes. It's not the money; it's not that good, yet. But, I feel more
driven to improve my writing. I want to be the best writer I
possibly can be.
Before I was
published, the drive was just to tell the story. Now I want to tell
it so people who read it feel as if they couldn't put it down. That
means I spend time practicing, editing, learning the craft that I
would have spent differently. I’m more focused, that's for sure. I
know where I want to go now, before I just knew I wanted something.
Can you tell us what a typical day in the life of writer Jude Mason
is like?
I'm one of the
very lucky ones. Writing is my job, so my days are very much wrapped
around it. I'm up by 7:30 usually. The first thing, after shower and
dressing, is coffee. I'm a coffeeholic. Then it's to the computer. I
spend probably a couple of hours first thing answering emails and
such. I try to get an hour or so of writing done then. By writing,
it might not actually be putting the words down, it could be
plotting, editing, coming up with new ideas, but it's all related to
the story telling.
Lunch I take away
from the comp. The afternoon is spent writing, promoting, whatever
is scheduled for that day. Writing is always part of it though.
Evenings, I try to keep fairly free for family, although I may edit
if hubby is into something with his photography.
Where do you take your inspiration from?
Wow, this is
huge. EVERYTHING! A news story, a trip to town, seeing a truck full
of refuse at a stop light, listening to a particular piece of music,
a group of words someone says. Anything and everything could trigger
a scenario, and then the story flashes into my mind.
What would you say is your favorite work to date?
At this moment,
the book, 'Scorpio Tattoo' is my favorite. It's a contemporary,
paranormal, suspense story about a psychic bookstore owner who
'sees' then rescues a woman who was abducted and held while a tattoo
was being put on her. The police are baffled. But, she's not the
first. She is, however, the first to live through it. She thought
she'd escaped, but whoever, or whatever, it was, finds her.
And, that's all
I'm going to tell you.
Can you tell us a little about your latest release Stage Fright?
This was a fun
story to tell. A man carries a secret for years, but finally gets
the courage to tell his wife that he wants to be spanked. That turns
out well, she loves it as much as he does, but after some time, it's
not enough. What he really wants is to be spanked in public.
To date, which of your heroes is your personal favorite?
Ah, I love this
question. This coming October, you'll get to meet him. His name is
Joshua Lansing, and he's a changeling. He's beautiful, masculine,
and he turns into a cougar when the moon is full. He's also very
much a man who believes in doing what's right, even if it means
going outside of the law.
The book is
called 'Cat's Claw' and was originally two books published through
Venus Press. When VP closed its doors, I did a complete re-write,
added approximately 10,000 words and adore where it went.
Can you tell us about any WIPs that you are working on at the
moment?
At the moment,
I'm working on a couple of things. 'Sam, the Man' is destined for
Phaze's Fantasy VI anthology and tells the story of a flaming gay
fellow named Sammy, who was introduced in the book An Acquired
Taste. He was such a wonderful character he begged his own book and
he's been patiently waiting for ages. He's found his true love, but
there's a kink or two involved, which might surprise you all. Timid,
flaming gay Sammy, is the Dom. His luscious hunky lover…well you're
going to have to wait for more. Editing this one right now.
I'm also working
on a new that I've labeled 'The New Order' for now. It's a sci-fi,
alternate future, femdom creation. The world has been destroyed by
pollution and greed. The human race is in trouble. Men are still
fertile, but a large percentage of the women aren't. Also, women
have taken control. Men must fight for the right to breed, and it's
up to each fertile woman to decide if she wants the man who wins.
That one is still
in the very early stages, but it's looking very interesting.
What does the next 12 months hold for you as a writer?
I'd like to
spread out a little. At the moment, I have two publishers, Phaze,
which is my main one, and loveyoudivine, which I send some of my
more outrageous work to. I'd like to find one more publisher who
will be a good fit and who will help me grow as a writer.
And, there's
always the next story. I've got a folder full of ideas. I've got a
trilogy that needs to be completed, The Dealing With books, and I've
got my rights back to two books I really would like to re-write and
get out there again.
Thank you so much for joining us today Jude.
Thank you for
having me. I've really enjoyed answering your questions.
