hero husband.
Cathryn Fox writes smart, sexy, and fun erotic contemporaries
as well as dark paranormals where you'll find werewolves, vampires
and creatures from alternate universes.

What inspired you to become a writer?
Well, I didn't always know I wanted to be a writer, although those I
grew up with weren't surprised by it at all. Apparently I used to
make up big, elaborate lies.. err.. I mean stories all the time to
entertain my friends. Many years later after I graduated from
university with a business degree, my husband got posted up north,
population 800. I started reading, everything and anything, and
after I ran out of material I decided to try my hand at writing.
That first novel was absolutely horrible and will never ever see the
light of day!!
Would you consider most of your books to fall into the erotica
genre? If so, what began your interest in writing erotica?
Yes, most of my books are erotic romance. Years ago I was targeting
Silhouette Desire, this was before erotic romance was popular or
readily available. Thank you Ellora's Cave!!
I tended to write really hot love scenes and one editor from Desire
phoned me and told me she thought I should be writing erotica. Less
than a week later I sold to Ellora's Cave. I guess that editor
really knew what she was talking about.
Do you believe that the erotica genre is on the rise to becoming
one of the more popular genre's in women's fiction today?
I think everything is cyclical. Everything rises and falls. Erotica
will settle in and another genre will move in to take it's place.
How do you feel your books are different from others of the same
genre?
I think every story has been told before and the trick of every
writer is to take the familiar and put their own little twist to it.
I like to think I do that and offer readers something fresh and
unique.
What genre is your favorite to write? It used to be paranormal
because you have so much freedom with the line, but I've been
writing a lot of contemporaries lately and I'm really, really
enjoying them.
Any genres that you haven't tried that you would like to?
I haven't tried Western and would love give it a shot. I'd have to
do a lot of research first for sure.
You have more than several awards and achievements credited to
your books, just a few...WEB OF DESIRE was EcataRomance's 2006
reviewer's choice award nominee, PLEASURE CONTROL was a finalist in
Lori Foster's 2005 Novella Contest. How did it feel to achieve such
great acknowledgments?
I'm always so honored and thrilled. It gives me great joy to know
others are enjoying my work.
Did you ever feel that your work/writing would ascend to the
level it is now?
Five years ago I didn't know where I'd be with my writing. In five
more years I hope to be able to look back and say the same thing.
With every book I write I hope to evolve, grow, and aspire to higher
levels.
I noticed on your Press Kit page on your website that you have a
Publicity agent. Can you describe what a publicity agent does for
you?
Publicists have a thorough knowledge of the market, whether it's
marketing, promoting, or sales. Since they specialize in areas
foreign to me, I gladly hand over this task to their expertise.
Would you recommend a publicity agent for fellow aspiring and/or
published authors?
Publicists can be expensive so every individual thinking of using
one would have to weight the cost/benefit factor. I was at a point
in my career where I needed a publicists expertise!
Your CafePress store is amazing, the Spellbound merchandise being
my favorite! In your opinion does having merchandise available for
your readers help to make yourself and your books more personable?
I love my cafepress store, and I think Spellbound is my favorite
too! My designs are specific for my stories therefore I do believe
it makes it personal be for readers.
Can you tell us a little about your new release from Ellora's
Cave, RUNNING WILD?
First let me say I LOVE this cover. It's one of my favorites.
Running Wild contains two stories, Unleashed by me and Lion in the
Shadows by the fabulous Delilah Devlin. Unleashed is my EC werewolf
story.
How did your partnership with Delilah Devlin for RUNNING WILD
develop?
Unleashed was category length therefore not long enough as a stand
alone title. After I read Lion in the Shadows, a very fabulous shape
shifter story, I knew I'd love to have that paired up with
Unleashed. So I asked Delilah if she'd like to pair the stories and
she readily agreed.
Are you brewing up anything special for the future?
Yup, sure am! I can't tell you just yet though, but be on the
lookout for something very, very different and unexpected from me!!!
What advice can you give an aspiring writer?
Perseverance and learn your craft. Selling your first book doesn't
happen over night, but if it's what you really want then stick with
it. Join writing chapters, find a great critique partner and try to
write everyday, even if
only a little.
